Lonely? Apply for a virtual girlfriend!

29 Mar

Lonely men are being given the chance to boost their Facebook relationship status – by dating a virtual girlfriend.

Cloud Girlfriend promises users the ability to create their ‘perfect girlfriend’, who will post messages on their wall, giving the impression that they are in a long distance relationship.

Billing itself as ‘The Social Network Girlfriend’, the site is yet to go live, but users are invited to register their interest online now, where they can input their email address on a form.

The site describes four steps to creating a virtual partner, with users asked to ‘define their perfect girlfriend’ before the site’s owners ‘bring her into existence’.

It then promises the budding online Romeos they will be able to ‘connect and interact’ with their new girlfriend ‘publicly on your favourite social network’, prompting speculation that the virtual girlfriend may not be limited to Facebook.

Co-founder David Fuhriman claimed that Cloud Girlfriend will help users to bag themselves a real girlfriend.

He explained to website Business Insider that women who see posts from a virtual girlfriend will think ‘someone else thinks highly enough of this person to date him, so maybe I should too’.

Some have voiced concerns that Cloud Girlfriend contravenes Facebook’s terms and conditions, and that it will be quickly shut down by site bosses after it goes live.

The site’s terms currently state that users must ‘not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than themselves without permission.’

Writing on MIT Technology Review, tech pundit Christopher Mims said: ‘Some start-ups don’t make it past the phase where they build a mailing list of users for their service, and if Cloud Girlfriend isn’t one of them, I will gladly eat my hat.’

But this has apparently not deterred legions of lonely male web users registering their interest with the service, as a banner on the site advises users to register early due to ‘high demand’.

Services that offer an opportunity to create a virtual girlfriend are already popular in Japan, with one Nintendo DS game, Love Plus, selling 100,000 copies within a month of release.

In December 2009, one user even ‘married’ a character from the game, tying the knot at a ceremony attended by 40 people.

Facebook and its addicts are the scum of the Earth.

Don’t like my opinions? I have more.

I rejoined Bebo today, the social network you know little about. There’s something about it that seems slightly more mature, and several shit-tons less addictive. It’s basically where I keep my stats. My Stats House if you will, and I’ll have a link to my profile on the side bar to the left so you can see what I mean, drop me a line, maybe add me as a friend (why must we call it “friends”?).

Anyway enjoy your weekend, I’m buying whiskey.

First day without Facebook. No withrawl so far, but I have out of habit tried finding it on my bookmarks toolbar…how revolting. It seems to be such a quick reaction, but it also leaves me wondering what to do on the computer. And then I realise I don’t NEED to be on the computer. It’s a magical feeling.

Other than the fact that the great DAVIS FLEETWOOD has added me as a “friend” on the ohsoevil Facebook, I’m looking forward to leaving. It’s not easy to leave but when I’m gone, I wont miss it.

So I’m leaving the ever freakishly addictive Facebook. May my account(s) rest in deletable peace. Yeah that’s right accountS. It was getting THAT bad. The plan is to remove the only valued bit of info I have on there and that’s my albums. Which takes an insane amount of time because you must save each pic individually. I dread the process. But detachment from the formidable FB will be well worth it in the end. For once I am gone I will be free to look down upon my still inslaved peers from my tweetdeck…._.I kid you, mainly
