I know of such happiness for I have never reached it.

Above is a video made by John Green one of my favorite modern Novelists. John is also one half of a Vlogging duo on YouTube called the Vlog Brothers, which he shares with his brother Hank Green (See Hanks related video below).

Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne’er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day
Can tell the definition,
So clear, of victory!

As he, defeated, dying,
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized and clear!

A common idea in Dickinson’s poems is that not having increases our appreciation or enjoyment of what we lack; the person who lacks understands whatever is lacking better than the person who possesses it.

The following video is Hank Green’s cheerfully truthful song about constant pain, deep emotions and Angler Fish.
